Political Satire

The alleged quote has circulated online for almost six years, but is a lie created by a satire website, Scooter. The people distributing this didn’t bother to look at a disclaimer on Scooter’s website.

Medicaid spending declined by 1.9 percent in 2012, the second such decline in 47 years.

According to a 2013 study by the Public Religion Research Institute and the Brookings Institute, 23 percent of 18- to 33-year-olds are religious progressives, 17 percent are religious conservatives, and 22 percent are non-religious. (page 34 of comprehensive report)
John Boehner
Says President Barack Obama’s health care law is "expected to destroy 2.3 million jobs."
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office report was widely misquoted and misconstrued.  The reduction will come from voluntary actions by workers, rather than layoffs by employers. The law would not push up unemployment. In fact, some people at the low end of the wage ladder would find it easier to find work as a result of the predicted shifts in the workforce.
Americans For Prosperity
New anti-Obamacare ad makes misleading claims according to Washington Post Fact Checker
Americans for Prosperity (Kosh brothers) makes sweeping claims about the health-care law that lack context or offer a misleading picture.  They claim not to be about politics yet run in states with competitive Senate races. They misconstrue facts.
Neera Tanden Center For American Progress
"95 percent of the income gains in the last few years have gone to the top 1 percent."
Tanden was commenting on the Supreme Court’s 6-2 decision allowing states to effectively ban affirmative action. She accurately reflected the findings of a much publicized report, however some other studies show slight differences.
Hillary Clinton
"Canadian middle class incomes are now higher than in the US. They are working fewer hours for more pay, … living longer, and facing less income inequality."
It is true that Canadian middle class incomes are now higher than in the United States. They are working fewer hours for more pay, living longer on average, and facing less income inequality."  Her claim that Canada provides a better safety net is hard to measure statistically.

Barack Obama
How does the deficit and spending compare in Bush and Obama administrations?
Charts from Budget of the United States Government: Historical Tables Fiscal Year 2015 show spending by Bush increased 88%, while spending increased only 3.78% under Obama.  Deficit increased to $1.4 trillion under Bush.  Under Obama deficits have been reduced by about half to $.6 trillion.  We have gone from losing around 850,000 jobs a month under Bush, to gaining over 200,000 jobs a month under Obama.
Economy
How has the size of the Obama government compare to that of recent Republican administrations?
Presidents Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II all dealt with recessions by growing the government and increasing local and government jobs.  But under Obama federal, state, and local government has declined by more than half a million workers in the last three years.
Bernie Sanders VT Senate
Bernie Sanders says tax share paid by corporations has fallen from 33% to 9% since 1952.
Sanders is right if you use the official numbers, but it’s worth noting that the figure for individual income taxes now includes a significant chunk of taxes assessed on corporate profits.
Naoim Klein, Author
Klein's new book, This Changes Everything, is a wake-up call to those who profit from damaging our earth.
Global warming, according to Klein's book, This Changes Everything, is not about carbon—it’s about capitalism. Our economic model is waging against life on earth. Our environment is loosing the battle to corporate profits.
John Boehner
"The nearly six-year delay in approving Keystone is costing Americans more than 100,000 jobs."
He was citing a study that experts said was "flawed" and the company in charge of the project, TransCanada, said was "no longer relevant."
Republican Policies Questioned
Republicans For Kansas Values are backing the Democratic candidate for governor because the Republican agenda has backfired in Kansas.
This organization, supported by an extensive list of notable Republican politicians and public servants, has posted an impressive statement called, Why Sam Brownback’s Policies are Taking Kansas in the Wrong Direction. They say these Republican policies have caused deficit spending, drastic cuts in education and highway spending, hurt job growth, benefited special interests at the expense of the people, and downgrades Kansas character and creates embarrassing headlines.
Taxes
Business Insider reviews the history of taxes and economy and shares THE TRUTH ABOUT TAXES.
"Historical analysis shows that for most of the century, including some boom times, top-bracket income tax rates were much higher than they are today.".. "History shows super-high tax rates on rich people do not appear to hurt the economy.".. "Periods of very low tax rates have been followed by periods with very high tax rates, and vice versa. So history suggests that tax rates will soon start going up."
Rick Perry Gov Tx
Perry said this week that income inequality is not a problem in Texas. "Biblically, the poor are always going to be with us in some form or fashion."
The facts are, Texas has the 13th highest poverty rate in the United States. Texas is one of nine states with the highest levels of income inequality. Texas has created over a million jobs since the recession began. But it has also added a quarter million more part-time workers who want full-time jobs. Mark 14:7 says the poor will be with you but it does not say to ignore them.
Amy Klobuchar Cnn State Of The Union
"We're now the No. 1 producer of oil in the world. We've surpassed Saudi Arabia."
The latest global oil production statistics back up Klobuchar’s claim. The United States has been the world’s largest oil producer since late 2012.
Elizabeth Warren Sen Mass
"The average family not in the top 10 percent makes less money today than they were making a generation ago."
According to one measurement, the bottom 90 percent of American earners had a lower income in 2012 than they had 30 years ago. She’s arguing that middle-class wages haven’t increased enough over the past couple decades.

Barack Obama
"Wages are finally starting to rise again." "More small-business owners plan to raise their employees' pay than at any time since 2007."
These quotes from 2015 State of the Union Message are true. The real average hourly earnings rose by 1%, and surveys show that 17% more businesses plan to raise wages than those who plan to cut them. This is the highest since 2007.
John Legend
"We live in the most incarcerated country in the world."
The United States far and away incarcerates more people than its peers, in terms of the portion of its population behind bars, despite having a comparable amount of crime.
Ted Cruz Tx
Ted Cruz says small business are going out of business 'in record numbers.'
Data for the most recent year, 2012, shows business closures at about what they were in 2005. The percentage of firms that closed was quite high in 2009, but it wasn’t the highest point, and more recently, it is in line with historical figures.
Marco Rubio
"I can tell you with certainty (cap and trade) would have a devastating impact on our economy."
Existing cap-and-trade programs have not proven to be "devastating" in their economic impact. While estimates for proposed programs vary, most experts and analysts have found modest potential  impact on the economy; some even show a positive impact.
Robert Reich, Political Economist
Robert Reich says, "no one who works full-time should live in poverty. A decent nation ensures that all workers can pay their rent and feed their family."

Marco Rubio
"For the first time in 35 years, we have more businesses dying than we do starting."
While this statement is true, the downturn actually happened during the recession in 2008.
Rick Perry
Perry says "the U.S., Canada, and Mexico have more energy resources than Russia and Saudi Arabia."
North America does have a large supply of petroleum, natural gas and coal. But combining the three fuel sources together is like comparing fossil fuel-based apples and oranges. Just comparing straight numbers, Perry was right about coal, but wrong on natural gas and crude oil.
Donald Trump
"The Mexican government forces many bad people into our country."
There is no evidence of any Mexican policy that pushes people out of Mexico and into the United States. As it has been the case for decades, a combination of economic and family factors accounts for most of the migration from Mexico to the United States.
Bernie Sanders Vt Senate
"The top one-tenth of 1 percent" of Americans "own almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent."
Sander's claim repeats a finding from a study by two internationally known economists that were supported by two other major economists PolitiFact contacted. The study has been criticized for not including Social Security in the wealth calculations.
Scott Walker
Walker says Wisconsin unemployment went from 8% to 4.6% since he took office, and "the rate in which people are working is almost five points higher than it is nationally.”
Walker failed his campaign promise to create 250,000 jobs, but says he, instead, brought down unemployment rates and raised labor participation rates. The numbers check out, but the   decrease was when both national and regional unemployment rates steadily decreased as well.
