NO! Not at all! Politicians often use the Bible for political gain and are not interested in the truth. They look for an ancient sound bite to convince people of whatever they already believe.

Bragging about sexual assault. Cheating on a spouse. Sexting. Fathering secret children.  Do these behaviors obstruct a politician's ability to do their job?
Marco Rubio
Marriage "decreases the probability of child poverty by 82 percent."
More current and more accurate statistic to back up his claim would be a decrease of 71 percent, but the point is clear.
Rush Limbaugh
"Obamacare is going to increase the divorce rate."
There is concern about a "marriage penalty," which exists for other federal programs with sliding income eligibility scales, but experts said the effect may be marginal, as no one has done the research to nail down reasonable expectations.
Ed Lindsey, GA
Bob Barr has changed his position on the Defense of Marriage Act over the years.
Barr guided DOMA to passage as a Republican in the mid-1990s. But then Barr became a Libertarian and apologized for his role in getting the bill passed. As a Libertarian, Barr has said DOMA has been used by the government to overstep its authority.
National Organization for Marriage
"Religious groups like Knights of Columbus have been forced to allow same-sex marriage ceremonies in their facilities, against their beliefs."
The claim made in a newspaper ad just before an election cited examples which were shown to be false.  (Groups who claim to represent morals should have some.)
Rick Santorum
"Over 40 percent of children born in America are born out of wedlock."
According to the most recent data available, 2009, there is a record high of births to unmarried mothers.  But births to unmarried teens as a percentage of all unmarried births has declined (21%).
Pope Francis
Pope Francis Challenges Davos Elite: 'Humanity To Be Served By Wealth, Not Ruled By It'
In a message to more than 2,500 participants at the annual World Economic Forum, the pontiff urged industrialists and bankers to promote inclusive prosperity, but stopped short of chiding them for excesses laid bare by the global financial crisis.
Chain Email
The percentage of black children born without a father in the home has risen from 7 percent in 1964 to 73 percent today, due to changes from President Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society.
There has been a rise in fatherless children in all races, but there is no federal data to back up this exaggerated claim.  In addition, the focus on Johnson and the Great Society is likely a red herring, since broader, societal factors are believed to have played a major role in rising rates of single-parenthood -- not just among blacks, but also among whites.
Cookie Roberts
"Two-thirds of the people who receive the minimum wage are female."
Federal data shows 62% of people who earn the federal minimum wage or below are women, however this doesn't account for women in states with a higher minimum wage. One study says that if the federal government raises the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, women will benefit more than men by a 55-45 percent spread.
Ralph Reed Faith and Freedom Coalition
Ralph Reed says 'irrefutable' social science shows kids better off raised by straight couples.
What studies really show is that children are better off with two parents. Those studies do not focus on gender. All reputable research so far indicates that children brought up by gay parents are just well off as those brought up by straight parents.
HIV-positive couple had 3 kids, all free of disease. This may be due to dad's involvement.
Dads are important! A study conducted between 1999 and 2005, showed that dad's involvement in the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, reduced the risk of transmitting the disease 40% compared to couples with no male involvement.
Barack Obama
"The United States is the only developed country in the world without paid maternity leave."
Few Americans have paid maternity leave.  The rest of the developed world has at least some paid benefits, but many developed countries still have inferior benefits.
Emmanuel Jal Rapper Actor Activist
Former child soldier works with Reese Witherspoon on new film, The Good Lie, about children forced to be soldiers in South Sudan.
Rapper, actor, political activist and former Sudanese child soldier Emmanuel Jal, shares how his book, War Child: A Child Soldier's Story, and film, The Good Lie, are bringing voices to those who desperately need to be heard in South Sudan.
Amy Klobuchar Cnn State Of The Union
Klobuchar: Children who witness domestic violence are twice as likely to commit domestic violence.
A 2010 study shows children who witnessed any intimate partner violence are 2.6 times as likely to perpetrate it themselves.  Children who witnessed any violence were 1.6 times as likely to become perpetrators.  We need new studies.
"There is no state in the U.S. where a 40-hour minimum wage work week is enough to afford a two-bedroom apartment."
The statement would be totally true except that they failed to specify that the study refers to Fair Market Rent, a number determined by the federal government for each region set at the 40th percentile of all rents in that area.  People might be able to find a dump for minimum wage.
Tony Perkins, Family Research Council
"We know from the social science that children do best with a mom and a dad."
Perkins, who heads Family Research Council which fights against gay marriage, cites research on it's web site which misrepresents data and misquotes other legitimate research. (Christians shouldn't fudge data to support their views!)
Texas Rights To Life
Texas Right to Life says UT students signed petition to abort babies and, children up to age 5.
This email implies that UT students were hustling up support for legalizing infanticide and child killings. In reality, a visitor briefly collected signatures one day, almost like attempting a trick.
Barack Obama
Obama campaign promise fulfilled. Americans granted unrestricted rights to visit family and send money to Cuba.
Obama said, "Cuban American connections to family in Cuba are not only a basic right in humanitarian terms, but also our best tool for helping to foster the beginnings of grassroots democracy on the island."
Greg Abbott Tx Gop
"My wife is going to be the first Hispanic first lady in the history of Texas."
Cecilia Abbott, with Hispanic roots through her mother and grandmother, will be the first Hispanic first lady since statehood. Other Hispanic women were first ladies only before Texas was a state.
Democratic Party
The DNC said that "Bush not only opposes marriage equality, he’s said he ‘personally’ believes gay couples should be banned from adopting children."
While in office, Bush repeatedly said that he opposed gay marriage, although he was reluctant at times to amend the state Constitution since it was already banned in state law. He also opposed gay adults adopting children. Since leaving office, Bush said that he supports "traditional marriage,".

Barbara Comstock R-10th
"Did you know under President Obama family health care premiums have increased $4,154 on the average?"
First, the number is dubious. Comstock uses Kaiser’s 2008 survey as the base year for Obama. That means she’s blaming Obama for some premiums that went into effect a year or more before he was inaugurated.
RI Center for Freedom
"Common welfare programs give income of $43,330 or $20.83 an hour."
It's not income as most people think of it. It's how much a poor single parent with two children under age 5 would have to earn to get the equivalent value of all programs, including food stamps, medical care, heating assistance and housing subsidies, plus $6,648 a year in cash assistance.
Terry Jeffrey Cnn News
There were more people on welfare than working in 2013.
The number of "welfare" recipients -- unlike the number of workers -- is enlarged by the inclusion of children and senior citizens. The comparison also ignores that many "welfare" recipients actually work, so trying to separate the two categories creates a false dichotomy.
"The No. 1 cause of childhood deaths is preventable accidents."
The claim is based on hard numbers from the CDC, and the general trend has been consistent for the last decade and a half.
Rush Limbaugh
"A married couple that" use the same last name "is rarer and rarer in our country."
Best we can tell, married couples who share the same last name is not rare at all. The latest U.S. census figures on the topic show that as of 2004, some 94 percent of married, American-born women in the U.S. were using their husband's last name.
Bishop Thomas Tobin
"Abortions account for 94 percent of the services provided for pregnant women by Planned Parenthood."
Planned Parenthood’s annual report show that the agency conducted 1.1 million pregnancy tests, 3.7 million tests for sexually transmitted diseases, prenatal services, and childbirth classes, among other services, but the agency does not track abortion numbers. The Bishop's figures have no factual basis.
Brian Kilmeade Fox News
Says Colorado food stamp recipients can use ATMs to get cash to buy marijuana.
The technology behind government electronic benefit cards blocks that. While the card could have cash value from another program such as TANF, no ATM would dispense cash based on a person’s food stamp allowance.
"American families work hard to earn $4,250 a month. Obama is spending $18,972 a month on each illegal immigrant child."
The numbers cited by the meme are framed in a misleading way. The sum of money cited has been allotted to a small fraction of all undocumented immigrant children in the United States, and it isn’t going into their pockets as family earnings are.
The Family Foundation
"The United States is one of only seven nations that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks post-fertilization."
PolitiFact cites done by both pro- and anti-abortion rights groups that back up this claim.
Ann Coulter
Coulter states "America has already taken in one-fourth of Mexico's entire population."
Coulter, a conservative social and political commentator, based this statement on a study that counted all people of Mexican origin in the US. But Coulter ignored that 65 percent of those were born in America and about a third came from families in which both parents were born in America.  America couldn’t "take them in" because most have been here for generations.
Ted Cruz Tx
Ted Cruz Jokes About Joe Biden, As Biden Grieves For His Son
Cruz made a crass and poorly timed joke about Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday, days after Biden's son Beau died from brain cancer. "Vice President Joe Biden. You know the nice thing? You don't need a punch line," Cruz said.
Jimmy Carter
Former President Jimmy Carter said in a recent interview that he thinks Jesus would approve of gay marriage.
"I think Jesus would encourage any love affair if it was honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else, and I don't see that gay marriage damages anyone else," Carter said in a HuffPost Live interview with Marc Lamont Hill published Tuesday.
Donald Trump
"The Mexican government forces many bad people into our country."
There is no evidence of any Mexican policy that pushes people out of Mexico and into the United States. As it has been the case for decades, a combination of economic and family factors accounts for most of the migration from Mexico to the United States.
Scott Walker
Walker said, If women seeking an abortion see their ultrasound, "the odds are pretty high they're going to keep the baby."
The latest academic study shows that nearly all women proceed with an abortion even after seeing the ultrasound.
Ted Cruz Tx
Cruz says states not directly involved in the gay marriage lawsuits that reached the Supreme Court "are not bound" by the court’s ruling.
Other courts would be bound by the Supreme Court’s precedent, making the ruling applicable throughout the nation.
Pope Francis
Pope Francis calls on church to welcome divorced Catholics.
Pope Francis "has encouraged debate on changing pastoral practices to allow divorced and remarried Catholics to take communion." "For how can we encourage these parents to raise their children in the Christian life, to give them an example of Christian faith, if we keep them at arm's length?"
Donald Trump
Trump said, "We have 93 million people out of work. They look for jobs, they give up, and all of a sudden, statistically, they're considered employed."
Once you strip out full-time students, senior citizens, the disabled, and those who have chosen not to work to take care of their children, a more reasonable estimate of "out of work" Americans is somewhere in the neighborhood of 21 million, or less than a quarter of Trump’s figure. Meanwhile, he is flat wrong that the government reclassifies discouraged workers as "employed."
Ashley Madison Cheating Website
Some predict that over 400 clergy and religious leaders will resign their positions after their names appeared on the Ashley Madison list.
"The real tragedy is the hypocrisy that so many clergy engage in."  "We need to be humble and to embrace our flawed humanity as we seek through our faith and experience to better ourselves." When we truly face our humanity, we will stop pointing the finger at others in order to distract from our own sins.
Mike Huckabee
On MSNBC Morning Joe, 9/9/15, Republican presidential candidate Huckabee could not defend his stance against same sex marriage.
Huckabee was asked if he would issue a second divorce to Kim Davis, or refuse since Jesus condemned divorce, but said nothing about homosexuality.   Huckabee could not answer.  He quoted Matthew 19 to support his narrow definition of marriage, however that verse was actually one where Jesus was condemning divorce.
Pope Francis
The Vatican said that Pope Francis' meeting with Kim Davis "should not be considered a form of support of her position."
Francis met with "several dozen" people at the Vatican's embassy and such meetings are due to the pope's "kindness and availability."  Many believe that Kim Davis was a trap for the Pope, who had no prior knowledge of the controversy.  This is a reported script of the contact where she repeatedly talked over the Pope.
Vicky Hartzler
Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler said "Twenty-five percent of our kids in foster care are there because their parents are involved in drugs."
Drug abuse by parents is the second most prevalent reason for a parent losing custody of a child to foster care services.
