Pope Francis has brought new spirit into the Church with his humble lifestyle and direct and often challenging commentary on world affairs and personal ethics.
Charlie Sykes
"The number of Americans who receive means-tested government benefits -- welfare -- now outnumbers those who are year-round full-time workers."
On his radio show, he used old data and failed to note the large numbers of children and elderly in the recipient group. Also there was at least one person working in almost 3/4 of the recipient households
Bill O'Reilly
Since 1965, the United States has spent 'untold trillions' yet the poverty rate hasn’t budged.
Actually the poverty rate has fallen and plummeted for some groups
Billy Graham
Billy Graham's Prayer for Our Country was not written by Graham

This was previously attributed to Paul Harvey, but was written in 1996 by Bob Russell for a Kentucky Governor's Prayer Breakfast, then delivered by Rev. Joe Wright at the Kansas House of Representatives.  Why would a true Christian twist the truth?
Barack Obama
How many of Obama's campaign promises has he kept?
PolitiFact has compiled more than 500 promises that Barack Obama made during the 2008 and 2012 campaigns and is tracking their progress on our Obameter45 percent were kept and 25 percent were compromised.  Check it out.

Sarah Palin
Palin says the Pope is too liberal
In a November 12 interview with Jake Tapper.
Barack Obama
"By the time she turns 3 years old, a child born into a low-income home hears 30 million fewer words than a child from a well-off family."
Comment based on research by child psychologists Betty Hart and Todd Risley. The word gap, along with other issues, leaves preschool educators to fix existing educational shortfalls.
Donna Brazile Cnn
Donna Brazile says GOP lacks plan to help working poor get health insurance
Republicans do suggest refundable tax credits which can help some Americans, but the plan is full of uncertainty and results might be limited. No independent studies show how much Republican ideas for tax deductions and tax credits would accomplish.
Newt Gingrich
"Every major city which has a center of poverty is run by Democrats. Every major city."
Two out of the top 5 poorest major cities are led by Republicans -- Miami and Fresno, Calif.
Jason Conger R OR
Says "there are actually more people in poverty now than there were when we started" the War on Poverty.
More people in poverty, but a lower poverty rate due to population growth. The rate was 19% in 1964 and 15% now.
Pete Gallego US Rep TX
Says 97 percent of food stamp benefits "are paid in the proper amounts to people who are really eligible."
Opposing Republican-proposed cuts in food stamps, U.S. Rep. Pete Gallego suggested the program doesn’t waste money.
Ted Cruz Tx
"Expanding Medicaid will worsen health care options for the most vulnerable among us in Texas."
This assertion make no logical sense. The stucies Cruz and others have pointed to don't even back up his point.
Michele Bachmann
Of every "three dollars in food stamps for the needy, seven dollars in salaries and pensions (go to) the bureaucrats who are supposed to be taking care of the poor."
Administrative costs for SNAP tops out at 5 percent of program costs, and the scholar behind the statistic she appears to have used as support said Bachmann has misquoted his work.
Gov Scott Walker WI
Scott Walker says minimum wage jobs are ‘overwhelmingly’ for young people
The best estimates are that 24 percent to 55 percent of such jobs are held by teenagers and young adults.
Occupy Democrats org
Pro-Democrat group says 9 of the 10 poorest states are Republican
This is true whether you look at per-person, household, or family income.  Poor red states are Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Virginia and Washington. The only Red state on the list: Alaska.

Marco Rubio
Marriage "decreases the probability of child poverty by 82 percent."
More current and more accurate statistic to back up his claim would be a decrease of 71 percent, but the point is clear.
Kathleen Sebelius
Medicaid spending declined by 1.9 percent in 2012, the second such decline in 47 years.
Stats by Obama official are true. She was making a much larger point: That Medicaid costs might not increase as rapidly as some had predicted, even though they will still go higher.
Obamacare provision will allow "forced home inspections" by government agents.
The program they pointed to provides grants for voluntary help to at-risk families by trained staff like nurses and social workers. Studies show that such visits to families of newborns reduced child abuse and neglect, even years later. They also reduced government spending for low-income unmarried women.
Pope Francis
Pope Francis Challenges Davos Elite: 'Humanity To Be Served By Wealth, Not Ruled By It'
In a message to more than 2,500 participants at the annual World Economic Forum, the pontiff urged industrialists and bankers to promote inclusive prosperity, but stopped short of chiding them for excesses laid bare by the global financial crisis.
Bill Gates
2014 Annual Letter: People around the world are living longer, healthier lives. The world can solve extreme poverty and disease.
After years of hands-on philanthropy, Gates exposes 3 myths: 1)  Poor countries are doomed to stay poor; 2) Foreign aid is a big waste; 2) Saving lives leads to overpopulation. See interview on Charlie Rose
Barack Obama
The federal minimum wage is worth about 20 percent less than at Ronald Reagan's first State of The Union address
Obama's not far off, but it’s actually closer to 16 percent less.  Reagan never raised the minimum wage.
Religious trends in America
According to a 2013 study by the Public Religion Research Institute and the Brookings Institute, 23 percent of 18- to 33-year-olds are religious progressives, 17 percent are religious conservatives, and 22 percent are non-religious. (page 34 of comprehensive report)

Americans For Prosperity
New anti-Obamacare ad makes misleading claims according to Washington Post Fact Checker
Americans for Prosperity (Kosh brothers) makes sweeping claims about the health-care law that lack context or offer a misleading picture.  They claim not to be about politics yet run in states with competitive Senate races. They misconstrue facts.
Cookie Roberts
"Two-thirds of the people who receive the minimum wage are female."
Federal data shows 62% of people who earn the federal minimum wage or below are women, however this doesn't account for women in states with a higher minimum wage. One study says that if the federal government raises the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, women will benefit more than men by a 55-45 percent spread.
Alicia Menendez HuffPost Live
"A white family is likely to have about six times as much wealth than a black or Hispanic family coming out of the recession."
A study from the Urban Institute supports her statistic. Other research shows an even wider gap, further proving her point that race is a factor in U.S. wealth.
Charles Schumer D NY
If you work 40 hours a week at the proposed minimum wage of $10.10 an hour, "you get out of poverty."
This depends on size of the family.  One-person households already exceed poverty limits at current minimum wage. Raising the wage to $10.10 an hour does put two-, three- and four-person households with one working member above the poverty line for the first time. And households of five or more people still wouldn’t earn enough to escape poverty. 46 percent of all impoverished households would escape poverty with increase.
Progressive Christians
Progressive Christianity seeing stunning resurgence with groups like Nuns on a Bus, Sojourners, Red Letter Christians, The Cana Initiative, Moral Mondays, Faithful America, etc.
With each generation, the popularity of religious conservatism has declined. 47 percent of the Silent Generation (ages 66 to 88) are religious conservatives, compared with 34 percent of Baby Boomers, 23 percent of Gen Xers and 17 percent of Millennials.
Pope Francis
Pope Francis: 'Put The Needs Of The Poor Ahead Of Our Own'
Pope Francis, who has always championed the poor and vulnerable, said “Our needs, even if legitimate, will never be so urgent as those of the poor, who lack the necessities of life,"
Will the government food stamp program be discontinued effective March 2015?
This a total fabrication was created by, Empire News, one of the many "satirical" websites, that circulate fabrications as if it were truth. See the site's disclaimer page that most readers do not know exists. Read about the epidemic of political satire websites that spread lies
Tom Corbett Gov Pa
Republican Governor Tom Corbett agrees to expand Medicaid for low-income residents in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania will become the 28th state to expand Medicare under the Affordable Care Act.  An estimated 500,000 low-income individuals will be offered subsidies to purchase private insurance.  The state will fund and administer a voluntary program that will offer job training and placement services.
Tom Cotton, AK GOP House
Cotton says "President Obama hijacked the farm bill (and) turned it into a food stamp bill."
Food stamps have been part of every farm bill enacted since 1973. Cotton and his allies in the House attempted to strip the food stamp provisions, so they were the ones who were trying to make a radical change.
"There is no state in the U.S. where a 40-hour minimum wage work week is enough to afford a two-bedroom apartment."
The statement would be totally true except that they failed to specify that the study refers to Fair Market Rent, a number determined by the federal government for each region set at the 40th percentile of all rents in that area.  People might be able to find a dump for minimum wage.
Ruth Ginsburg Supreme Court
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsburg pens scathing dissent on Texas voter ID law.
Ginsburg said: "The greatest threat to public confidence in elections in this case is the prospect of enforcing a purposefully discriminatory law, one that likely imposes an unconstitutional poll tax and risks denying the right to vote to hundreds of thousands of eligible voters." She was joined in dissent by Justices Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor.
David Cicilline D Ri
The U.S. has third-lowest minimum wage among developed countries.
In the US the minimum wage is just 37 percent of the median wage, and we rank 26th among industrialized nations, above only the Czech Republic and Mexico. View this Labor Department graphic.
Arnold Abbott
"Drop that Plate!" A 90 year old man was arrested for feeding the poor in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, under a new ordinance that can jail him up to 90 days.
Ninety year old "Chef Arnold Abbott" and two pastors were arrested for serving food that they cooked in their church kitchen. Some 30 cities have tried to introduce laws similar laws at a time that more veterans face homelessness and after two harsh winters drove homeless people southward.
Rick Perry Gov Tx
Perry said this week that income inequality is not a problem in Texas. "Biblically, the poor are always going to be with us in some form or fashion."
The facts are, Texas has the 13th highest poverty rate in the United States. Texas is one of nine states with the highest levels of income inequality. Texas has created over a million jobs since the recession began. But it has also added a quarter million more part-time workers who want full-time jobs. Mark 14:7 says the poor will be with you but it does not say to ignore them.
Budget Cuts
One Million Unemployed Childless Adults Will Lose SNAP Benefits in 2016.
Most states will have a three-month limit on SNAP (Food Stamp) benefits for unemployed adults aged 18-50 who aren’t disabled or raising minor children. An Ohio report shows that 1/3 had a medical or physical limitation, including depression, PTSD, or mental or learning disabilities. Many were caregivers or had other impediment to employment.
"Newly Elected Republican Senators Sign Pledge to Eliminate Food Stamp Program in 2015."
But they failed to do due diligence and were snookered, since the story came from a publication that bills itself (quietly) as a "satirical, parody website."

Bill Gates
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which has helped hundreds of millions of people around the world, has published its Annual Newsletter.
They predict that "the lives of people in poor countries will improve faster in the next 15 years than at any other time in history. And their lives will improve more than anyone else's." They will have "unprecedented opportunities to get an education, eat nutritious food, and benefit from mobile banking", driven by innovation in technology. Goals include making drinking water from sewage, wiping out malaria, polio, HIV, and more.
John Legend
"We live in the most incarcerated country in the world."
The United States far and away incarcerates more people than its peers, in terms of the portion of its population behind bars, despite having a comparable amount of crime.
Andrew Cuomo Ny Governor
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a plan to raise the wages of fast-food workers across his state.
Cuomo says, "73 % of fast food workers are women, 70 % are over the age of 20, and more than 2/3 are raising a child and are the primary wage earners in their family.” No one who works full-time should live in poverty.  A decent nation ensures that all workers can pay their rent and feed their family.
Hillary Clinton
Democrats wage a national fight over gerrymandering and restrictive voting rules.
Democrats allied with Hillary Rodham Clinton are mounting a nationwide legal battle seeking to single out voting laws in Texas, Florida, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio and Wisconsin that limit participation, especially among minorities, the poor and younger voters, who disproportionately cast their ballots for Democrats.
Bernie Sanders Vt Senate
"We have the highest rate of childhood poverty of any major country on Earth."
Studies show that while the United States does consistently have one of the highest rates of childhood poverty in the world, there are several OECD members with higher rates, notably Israel and Mexico.
Donald Trump
Trump says, "We have 93 million people out of work. They look for jobs, they give up, and all of a sudden, statistically, they're considered employed."
There are only about 21 million unemployed when you do not count full-time students, senior citizens, the disabled, and those who have chosen not to work to take care of their children. The government DOES NOT reclassify discouraged workers as "employed."
Voter Supression
Blatant Alabama voter suppression is challenged.
Alabama's only Democratic member of Congress is requesting the Justice Department investigate the state's decision to close 31 driver's license offices in poor, rural, mostly-African American communities.  Since they started requiring a drivers license to vote the move could curtail the voting rights. (Note: Gerrymandering and voter suppression is UN-Christian!)
Steve Hawkings
Stephen Hawking: Machines won't be the problem in the future, wealth inequality will be.
During a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) interview about Artificial Intelligence (AI) he said, "If machines produce everything we need....and machine-owners successfully lobby against wealth redistribution," as is now the trend, most people will end up miserably poor.
Income Inequity
Income inequality is a religious test. We must reclaim the Heart of our Humanity.
Jim Wallis, who spoke to the Parliament of the World's Religions said, if you believe that every human being regardless of religion or nationality, is made in the image of God, is a child of God, and if you believe in loving your neighbor then income inequality is a spiritual issue, a moral issue, and a religious test of our belief.  We can address inequality through human dignity, stewardship, and the common good.
Donald Trump
Trump said "Elizabeth Warren lied when she says I want to abolish the Federal Minimum Wage."
To be honest, Trump's comments are so all over the map.  In the Debate in November 2015, Trump said wages are "too high" and he wouldn't raise the minimum. On May 8, 2016, edition of NBC’s Meet the Press, He rambled about leaving it up to the states. On MSNBC in August 2015, Trump said, "Having a low minimum wage is not a bad thing for this country." But when opponents quote him he calls them lairs.
Jennifer Schilling Dem Ws
Under Donald Trump's tax plan, the wealthiest 0.1 percent would get more tax relief than the bottom 60 percent of taxpayers combined."
Reports from respected nonpartisan research groups calculate that the 0.1 percent -- those making more than $3.7 million per year -- would receive 18 percent of the tax cuts under Trump’s proposal. The bottom 60 percent of taxpayers, meanwhile, would enjoy only 16.4 percent of the cuts.
