Observances of the National Day of Prayer took place throughout the U.S. and in the White House each year. In 2010 the Freedom from Religion Foundation filed a suit against the Obama Administration saying that the National Day of Prayer was unconstitutional.  In 2013, he co-sponsored the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which was meant to prohibit abortions of unborn children more than 20 weeks into a pregnancy. It  would have allowed exceptions in rape or incest or if the life of the mother was threatened. He refused to say if he would let a woman die rather than abort.
