12 Rules for Mixing Religion and Politics  by Peter Montgomery
with a foreword by Bill Moyers
Barack Obama
How many of Obama's campaign promises has he kept?
PolitiFact has compiled more than 500 promises that Barack Obama made during the 2008 and 2012 campaigns and is tracking their progress on our Obameter45 percent were kept and 25 percent were compromised.  Check it out.

Recirculated email: Mike Savage claims President Obama became the first U.S. president not to lay a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day.
Presidents Reagan, G.W. Bush, and Clinton have all missed some Memorial Days at Arlington. Obama has participated every year except 2010 when  he honored the veterans with a speech at Andrews Air Force Base.
Bill Cassidy LA GOP
"Only after news broke that our veterans are dying because of inadequate health care did Harry Reid and Senate Democrats take action."
Republicans are the ones who blocked an expansive veterans’ bill that included funding for the same 27 new clinics that Cassidy and the House passed last December.
Arnold Abbott
"Drop that Plate!" A 90 year old man was arrested for feeding the poor in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, under a new ordinance that can jail him up to 90 days.
Ninety year old "Chef Arnold Abbott" and two pastors were arrested for serving food that they cooked in their church kitchen. Some 30 cities have tried to introduce laws similar laws at a time that more veterans face homelessness and after two harsh winters drove homeless people southward.

Barack Obama's 2015 State of the Union address: annotated.
PolitiFact reviewed the state of the Union speech line by line.  Click the icon to review each point.
Barack Obama
Obama said, "We're slashing the backlog that had too many veterans waiting years to get the benefits they need."
According to a year-end report from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the backlog dropped by 60 percent from the high of March 2013 (611,073 cases) to September 2014 (241,991), but it is nowhere near zero where it needs to be.
Barack Obama
"Joining Forces, the national campaign launched by Michelle Obama and Jill Biden has helped nearly 700,000 veterans and military spouses get a new job."
This quote from the 2015 State of the Union speech calls attention to an opportunity to reach out to our veterans.
Evan Bayh, D-Ind
"The fastest-growing part of the Pentagon’s budget are health care expenses."
There’s little debate that generous military health care benefits are taking up an ever-increasing share of the Pentagon’s budget.
Jeb Bush Fl
"Only one person has been fired" at the Veterans Administration for withholding services.
Data reviewed by Politifact through May 14 showed that 18 permanent employees have been fired for patient scheduling, record manipulation, appointment delays, and/or patient deaths.
George W Bush
George W. Bush charged $100k for speech fundraiser for the wounded vets that he sent into harms way.
The 2012 Helping a Hero Gala "raised unprecedented funds", but veterans who lost limbs are incensed that he charged $100,000 plus $20,00 for private jet. Bush's typical speaking fee
is $250,000.  These extravagant fees are common for all former presidents.
Donald Trump
After 'not a war hero' remark, Donald Trump says John McCain has 'done nothing' for veterans
In fact, within the past two years, McCain has sponsored and helped enact several major provisions to help veterans. He also devotes a significant portion of his office staff for veterans  casework.
Barack Obama
Since 2009, "we've cut homelessness (among veterans) by a third."
According to the most recent, best available data, he’s right. During his tenure, homelessness among veterans has decreased 32.57 percent.
Bernie Sanders Vt Senate
Sanders says "500,000 troops came back with PTSD and traumatic brain injury."
No firm numbers exist for the number of veterans who have returned from America’s most recent conflicts with post-traumatic stress disorder or traumatic brain injuries, but Sanders’ claim of 500,000 does fall within the range of estimates provided by the VA and other sources.
Donald Trump
In order to counter claims that he had not donated the money to veterans as he claimed, Trump Claimed he wanted to keep veterans fundraising 'quiet.' (Modesty)
The fact is that he has been began bragging about his veteran donations since January, and was broadcasting it, but after reporters found that most of the money had not been paid to known veteran groups by May, he began trying to blame the press.
Donald Trump
Trump brags about generous donations, but apparently fails to follow through.
The Washington Post found that of the 167 charities to which Trump had pledged money since 2008, only one donation was actually on the books -- for less than $10,000.
In May 2016, under pressure from the news media, Trump made good on a pledge he made to veterans, four months earlier:  For 15 years Trump has publicly pledged to donate through his various enterprises: “The Apprentice.” Trump Vodka. Trump University. Etc.If he had honored all those pledges, his gifts to charity would have topped $8.5 million. He set up a foundation to funnel donations, but hasn't donated to it since 2009.
