In an effort to debunk defenders that Planned Parenthood provides
essential women’s health services in addition to abortions, an
anti-abortion group claimed that none of the organization’s clinics is
licensed to provide mammograms. Planned Parenthood physicians do however perform the clinical exams that lead to
referrals for a mammogram or other specialized care.
During an anti-abortion rant to defund Planned Parenthood, Leigh Anne Woods walked up the podium and took her shirt off saying,
“You have a problem because they perform abortions, look at everything else they do, they save lives!” Woods said.
“It’s more than birth control,” she insisted. “It’s more than abortion. They save lives.”
Setting abortion procedures aside -- Planned Parenthood offered more
than 10 million services in 2013. Those services included contraception,
breast exams, pregnancy tests, pap tests and STI/STD testing and treatment.
